COMI

Expert healthcare consultancy group

COMI is an expert healthcare consultancy group. We offer a range of services tailored to suit your business ranging from one-off sessions, on-going support or emergency help.

We provide healthcare providers guidance, support and solutions tailored to their individual needs in the areas of regulatory compliance, clinical governance, clinical safety, change management, risk management and improvement methods and other services.

The healthcare landscape

As a healthcare provider in England, you are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). To that end, you can expect a CQC inspection upon registering your service, within one year of operating and up to every four years thereafter. As you may already know. the CQC have now moved onto a risk-based methodology, this means that CQC are conducting inspections based on how risky a service is deemed to be. CQC determines the risk level for services in a variety of ways, including the new monitoring call activities.

CQC does not publicly share information regarding provider risk levels making it difficult for providers to plan for an inspection. Furthermore, all inspections are now unannounced, so providers are not given any time beforehand to prepare. We are sure you will agree that a CQC inspection has a huge effect on a healthcare business with a poor rating or enforcement action having serious detrimental consequences on patient and insurer confidence alike.

Your options

It's now more important than ever to ensure your business is compliant with its regulatory obligations, especially as the CQC have announced they plan on inspecting all unrated and single speciality services by the end of 2023. Most providers agree that in order to comply with the five CQC Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE's), you must showcase an embedded system of clinical governance and quality improvement. Pursuant with this, your options are as follows:

  1. To take on the mammoth task of ensuring your business is compliant with relevant legislations, regulations and professional guidance yourself. (Most providers going down this route find out quickly that they may not have the relevant skills, qualifications or experience to ensure adequate compliance.)
  2. To remunerate a Governance lead. Current industry rates for this are between £55,000-£75,000 per annum. (This route is often the preferred method to ensure compliance and security for your business, however it is often suitable only for larger corporate providers with heavy guaranteed cash-flows.)
  3. To join COMI on a fixed monthly rate to provide bespoke consultancy advice and meet all your governance requirements all year round for a fraction of the cost of an in-house governance lead between. We even offer retainer rates starting from only £500 a month - this means that you have access to any day-to-day support that you might require.
